Track and field teams finish on top at Paynesville

April 11
Invitational @ Paynesville

Minnewaska’s resurgent track teams racked up two more wins on Tuesday at the Paynesville Invitational.

The girls’ team easily outdistanced the host Bulldogs squad while the boys edged out New London-Spicer for the top spot.

Mariah Beckius swept the 100 and 200-meter dashes while Ellie Danielson and Kara Hanson took first in longer distances. Danielson won the 800-meter run, and Hanson won at 1,600 meters. The Lakers’ girls won the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays.

The Minnewaska girls fared well in the field events as well, winning the high jump, shot put and pole vault. Sierra Lindemann took the high jump, Natasha Nemmers won the shot put, and Leah Mitchell prevailed in the pole vault.

The Lakers’ boys had four first-place finishes, two in track and two in field.

Dylan Holmes placed first in the 110-meter hurdles, and the Lakers won the 4 x 800 relay. Garrett Jensen won the long jump, and Jordan Koubsky topped the field in the discus.

The Minnewaska boys win was brought about not so much by their first-place finishes, but by the quantity of high finishes.

The Lakers’ boys had seven second-place finishes. Those were Nolan Weisel in the 1,600, Peyton Kolstoe in the 800, Dennis VanDyke in the 400, Garrett Jensen in the 200, Jaeger Jergenson in the 300 hurdles, Peyton Johnsrud in the high jump, and the 4 x 100 relay team.

The Minnewaska track and field team will be hosting an invitational on Tuesday. Teams competing will be from Benson, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, Hancock, LQPV, Morris/Chokio-Alberta, Paynesville and West Central Area.
