Happenings at Central Square

On Saturday, May 14, at 7 p.m., experience multi-talented singer and performer, Maud Hixson, perform songs from the Doris Day songbook. Jazz Lives says of Hixson, “What Maud does is a special art, rooted in the deep desire to make singer and song interwoven and inseparable. She IS the song, and the song glows as a result.” There will be beverage service for this show.

Food for thought

A rural arts report released by the National Governers Association (NGA) stated:

“In terms of value added to the U.S. economy, the arts and cultural sectors contribute a greater share than do mining, agriculture, the energy/utilities sector or industries such as construction and transportation. Rural arts organizations draw nonlocal audiences at higher rates than do urban arts. In other words, rural arts organizations report that 31 percent of their audience travels “beyond a reasonable distance” to attend events, while the corresponding share that urban organizations report is 19 percent.
