With some help from Mother Nature, the Laker Trap Team moved from fifth place into third place with two weeks left to submit.

“We have some really strong shooters and it is so great to see them accomplish this big of a jump,” said coach Stone.

The team has completed week 4 but will not know the standings until the end of the week. August Reichmann and Dylan VanZee tied for high gun, both shooting 47 x 50, with VanZee crushing a perfect 25 on his second trap.

Trelana Johnson and Tabbi Durand led the girls both scoring an impressive pair of 22 x 25s for 44 total.

“We are also seeing some good improvement with our brand new shooters and everyone is starting to gear up for state. You can feel the excitement,” Stone added.

The team is hoping to make a move into second place this week and go into state on an upswing.

It is a tradition every year, on Mother’s Day, to present each mom with a rose to thank her for sharing HER day with the trap team..

Practice on Thursday, May 12, was cut short by tornado warnings with severe wind.

“When the alerts came out it kind of surprised us and when we read it, it was obvious we had to get packed up and get everyone home as there was really no safe place for 30 kids plus parents. The trap houses would be safe but would only hold a few people.  It was pretty crazy!”

The team will shoot their final competition on May 15 but will not know final standings until the following Sunday.

“The wait is really hard, but we will just start concentrating on State to keep our minds busy,” Stone said.
