Starbuck Junior Legion Post 4582 was in Bird Island for a doubleheader on Friday, June 3.

In game one Starbuck scored in every inning on their way to a 12-1, five-inning victory.

Dylan Alexander hit a two-out double in the first inning, then scored on a single by Noah Jensen, to get the scoring started.

Four more runs crossed the plate in the second inning on two Starbuck hits, including a double by Jensen, along with a walk and three errors by BOLD.

The runs kept piling up over the next three innings, many of them aided by BOLD defensive miscues.

Ryland Martin pitched three hitless innings to get the win, with Connor Frey coming in for relief over the final two innings.

Starbuck 5 Morris 4

On Tuesday night Starbuck Post 4582 made their debut for the summer season at Marthaler Field. Morris provided the opposition.

Things looked very promising in the bottom of the first inning when Starbuck loaded the bases with no outs. Lead-off batter Levi Johnson reached on an error, went to second on a single by Jack Majerus, then went to third on a walk to Dylan Alexander. Johnson scored on a ground out. It appeared Starbuck had scored a second run on a sacrifice fly, but it was determined that the Starbuck runner left third base early and was called out.

In the bottom of the second Ryland Martin reached on a two-out error, stole second, then scored on another Morris error, giving Starbuck a 2-0 lead.

Some clutch two-out hitting by Morris allowed them to plate a run in the top of the third inning and two more in the top of the fourth, giving Morris a 3-2 lead.

Post 4582 came right back in the bottom of the fourth with some two-out hitting of their own. Alex Panitzke reached on a fielder’s choice. From there he stole second and scored on a single by Austin Weber.

The game remained tied at 3-3 through the fifth and sixth innings.

Morris scored a run on a successful squeeze play in the top of the seventh, taking the lead and forcing Starbuck to match if they wanted to get a win.

Post 4582 got the job done in the bottom of the seventh before an out had even been made. Jack Majerus led off with a walk and went to third on a single by Dylan Alexander. Noah Jensen stepped to the plate and ripped a deep shot to right field, scoring both Majerus and Alexander, to give Starbuck the 5-4 walk off win.

Jensen knocked in three runs for the game while Alex Panitzke pitched the final three innings to get the win.

Starbuck 5 NL-S 1

On a perfect Friday night the Starbuck junior legion team hosted New London-Spicer at Marthaler Field.

In the bottom of the second Starbuck scored when PJ Johnson walked, went to  third on a single by Noah Jensen, then scored on a ground out by Alex Panitzke.

NL-S would tie the score in their next at bat and the game remained tied heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Austin Weber led off the bottom of the sixth  with a single, stole second and scored one out later on a single by Jack Majerus, who would eventually score on a single by PJ Johnson, putting Starbuck in the lead, 3-1.

Post 4582 added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when Nathan Dell led off with a single and scored on a double by Alex Panitzke. A sacrifice fly by Austin Weber would bring Panitzke across the plate with Starbuck’s fifth run of the game.

As it turned out, starting pitcher PJ Johnson would need very little help as he held NL-S to just one run on two hits. Johnson set the side down in order four times in a solid performance.
