Dacia Fleury bumps up a serve in front of Avery Fier and Dreya Barsness against West Central.

The Minnewaska Area volleyball team split a pair of conference matches last week, winning in four games at Montevideo last Tuesday and losing by four at home against West Central Area, Thursday.

The Lakers, who are 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the WCC, have a very busy week on tap this week with a match at Melrose Area, Tuesday (tomorrow), a home match with Sauk Centre, Thursday, and the Minnewaska Invitational, Saturday.

The Lakers lost a close match with West Central Area, Thursday at home, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20.  Minnewaska trailed early in game one, 5-3 and still trailed 19-18 late in the game before rallying for the 25-23 victory thanks to a late double-block by Haillie Schultz and Miaya Guggisberg and a kill by Dreya Barsness for game point.

The Lakers led early 5-3 and 12-10 after two-straight kills by Avery Fier.  WCA rallied to an 18-14 lead a few minutes later.  The score was 22-22 when WCA made possibly the play of the match with a beautiful save that led to a 23-22 lead.  Moments later, the Knights had won game two, 25-23.

WCA used the momentum from game two to control most of games three and four, winning 25-18 and 25-20, to complete the four-game win.
