Ahead of his fifth year overseeing the Minnewaska Area School District, Superintendent Chip Rankin earned high marks from the school board during his annual evaluation.

The Minnewaska Area Schools Board of Education held a closed session on Monday, Sept. 26 at the regular board meeting to conduct MAS Superintendent Chip Rankin’s performance review. School Board Chair Chad Barsness presented the results to Rankin and released those results the next day.  He also noted that an annual superintendent evaluation is required by state law.

The evaluation rated Rankin’s performance in 5 different areas, which were broken down into the following main categories:

Governance and board relation; Community Relations; Staff relations; Business and Finance; and Instructional leadership.

For each metric, the school board assigned a score of 1-6, with one being unacceptable performance and six significantly exceeding expectations.

Rankin’s scores were almost entirely 4s, 5s, and 6s, with business and finance being his strongest area, it was stated.  Rankin did not score a one or two in any of these categories.

“This is a very positive evaluation. It is not easy for a superintendent to get proficient. That means you are doing a really good job in the district.” Chairman Barsness said when he presented the results. “That is no small feat and congratulations to you. You are smart, thoughtful, and dedicated, and you show it every day here, and we are grateful for your leadership.”
