The start of the winter sports season at Minnewaska Area is underway, believe it or not.  The dance teams and junior high girls basketball teams have already opened up practices to prepare for the start of the official winter schedule.

Meanwhile, the first official practice for varsity girls basketball is Nov. 14, while the first official practice for boys basketball and wrestling is Nov. 21.

The first competition for the Minnewaska varsity girls basketball team is Tuesday, Nov. 29 at home against Lac qui Parle, while the first Laker boys basketball game is Saturday, Dec. 3 at Redwood Valley and the first wrestling match is Friday, Dec. 2 at the Big Lake Invitational.

The dance teams meanwhile, opened up practices Monday, Oct. 24 to prepare for the first meet, the PACT Charter Invitational, Nov. 29.  The Minnewaska Area Dance Invitational is set for Friday, Dec. 2

The official start of the winter sports schedule at Minnewaska Area High School is Tuesday, Nov. 8 when the junior high girls basketball teams host Sauk Centre.  The schedules for the junior high girls and boys basketball teams can be found in this week’s paper on page 4B.

Yes, it’s time to start thinking about the start of the winter sports season, although there’s still plenty of action left in the fall season, including the State Cross-Country Meet this Saturday at St. Olaf, the Section 3AA Volleyball Tournament at NLS, Tuesday (tomorrow),  and the Section 6A Swimming and Diving Meet, Nov. 10-12.

Go Lakers!
