The Laker C-squad started a stretch of 4-straight home games to close out the season with a game against West Central Area, Friday, Feb. 17.  In the first meeting between the two teams, WCA earned a 19-point win.  This one would belong to Minnewaska Area as it would get a hard-fought 45-35 victory.

The Lakers had to battle from behind as WCA started the game on  a 7-0 run.  The Lakers also trailed 10-3 early before tying up the game at 18-18 by halftime.  I was really proud of the great effort by the guys and the way we came back from the early deficit.  We did this with balanced scoring as seven players would score in the first half.

In the second half, Minnewaska’s full court pressure would force turnovers and our aggressive defense started to take the game over.  Tristan O’Neil scored 14 of his team-high 18 points after halftime and he also finished 6-of-7 from the line.  Conner Erickson also finshed in double figures with 11 points, Riley Week battled hard and scored six points in the paint, Caleb Kath added five points points, AJ Svec and Ike Spychalla each scored two points, and Ben Johnson closed out the scoring  with one point.  It was a total team effort to get the win on Parent’s Night, and a great way to close the week after losing a hard-fought game to EVW earlier in the week.

The  team was supposed to  host Melrose, Tuesday, but that game was postponed until Monday, Feb. 27, and the Lakers were set to play Breckenridge, Thursday, but that game was also postponed and will not be made up.  The final game for the C-squad will be played on Tuesday (tomorrow) against Osakis.
