NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LIVESTOCK FEEDLOT PERMIT

Notice is herby given per Minnesota Statues, Chapter 116, that Homestead Farms, has made application to the County of Pope for a permit to construct or expand a feedlot with a capacity of 700 animal units or more. 

The existing permitted feedlot is located in the NW quarter of Section 16 in Leven Twsp, County of Pope. The existing facility consists of 340 beef cattle housed in a 100’ X 40’ partial confinement barn with 330’ X 205’ open lot draining to a 900,00-gallon open lagoon; a 60’ X 32’ partial confinement barn with 221’ X 266’ open lot with a 28’ X 20’ hospital area. Total existing animal numbers are 200 stock beef cattle at 200.0 AU and 200 feeder cattle at 140.0 AU for a total of 340 animal units. 

The facility is proposing to construct a 228’ X 100’ total confinement barn with a 169’ X 114’ underfloor pit with a depth of 12’ to house 600 beef cattle. The existing 100’ X 40’ partial confinement barn will be used as a sick pen with the 330’ X 205’ open lot to house 100 beef cattle. The 60’ X 32’ partial confinement barn, 221’ X 266’ open lot and 28’ X 20’ hospital area are to be eliminated. The final capacity of the facility will be 700 animal units. 

This publication shall constitute as notice to each resident and each owner of real property within 5,000 feet of the perimeter of the proposed feedlot as required by Minnesota State Law.
