The Minnewaska Area track and field teams hosted their first meet of the season last Tuesday with seven other teams taking part.  Perham, one of the strongest Class A track teams in the state, won both titles while the Minnewaska Area girls were second and the boys placed fourth.

Winning titles for the Lakers were McKenzie Luetmer in the girls’ 400 meter dash (1:02.8) and Maeson Tank in the boys’ 400 meter dash (53.67).

The teams were set to compete at Pierz, Friday, but that meet was canceled due to weather.  Coming up is the second Minnewaska Invitational, set for Monday, April 24 followed by the Barnesville Invitational, Tuesday (tomorrow) and the Sauk Centre Invitational, Thursday, April 27.

Minnewaska Invitational

The Perham girls won 11 of the 18 individual events to dominate the girls’ meet with 251.5 points.  Minnewaska Area was second with 143.5 points in the 7-team field, while Osakis was third with 121 points.

McKenzie Luetmer had the lone first for the Minnewaska girls, winning the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:02.8, while Teagan Stark was third (1:05.71) and Alia Randt seventh (1:10.38).

The top eight place finishers earned points for their team during the meet with the scoring going 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

Dacia Fleury earned second in the 100 meter dash (13.52), with Mya Lindemann earning fourth (13.8), and Fleury was also fifth in the 300 meter hurdles (55.31) and seventh in the triple jump (31-3).

Lauryn Ankeny placed second in the 800 meter run (2:31.37), while Lindemann also earned second in the 200 meter dash (28.65), Kiearra Wilmes earned second in the 3200 meter run (12:54.73), and Elsey Hagen was third in the 1600 (6:06.62) and third in the 3200 (13:00.29).

Also earning points in the running events were Teagan Stark (third in the 400), Alia Randt (seventh in the 400), Brooklyn Meyer (seventh in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles), Brooke Kolstoe (eighth in the 800), Sydney Ankeny (fifth int he 3200), Piper Citrowske-Lee (sixth in the 1600), Izzy Bautista (seventh in the 1600) and Sophia Wallin (eighth in the 1600).

Jayda Kolstoe had another great night in the weight events, placing second in the discus (110-4), third in the shot put (34-6 1/2) and eighth in the high jump (4-0), while Olivia Danielson was fifth in the discus (86-5) and eighth in the shot put (27-8).

Phemi Oeltjen added a fifth in the pole vault (7-6), while Kendra Wilmes earned a point with an eighth in the pole vault (7-0), and Brooke Kolstoe tied for sixth in the high jump (4-4).

Minnewaska Area earned three seconds and one fifth in the four relay events.  Running on the second-place 3200 meter relay team were Brooke Kolstoe, Stark, Luetmer and Ankeny (10:21.07), while running on the second-place 1600 meter relay team were Stark, Makena Thoen, Ankeny and Luetmer (4:19.72) and competing with the runner-up 400 meter relay squad were Fleury, Meyer, Lyla Stadtherr and Lindemann.

In addition, the 800 meter relay team of Alannah Christensen, Sydney Perry, Payton Andreas and Randt was fifth with a time of 2:05.83.

•  In the boys’ competition, Perham won seven individual titles on the way to placing first with 154 points and Osakis earned six first on the way to placing second with 112 points.

Minnewaska Area, which earned third with 95.5 points, had one individual first as Maeson Tank won the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.67.  Tank was also second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.37.

Zach Palmer added a third (11:24.49) and Ian Mills was fourth (11:50.97) in the 3200 meter run, while Nick Ankeny placed fifth in the 1600 meter run (5:15.45), Carter Meyer was fifth (12.15) and Kaiden Harvey tied for eighth (12.5) in the 100 meter dash, and Meyer earned fifth (25.84), Connor Stein was seventh (26.65) and Tristan O’Neil eighth (26.92) in the 200 meter dash.

The Lakers earned 15 points in the two hurdling events as Hunter Stadsvold placed fourth in both the 110 meter high hurdles (18.65) and 3200 meter intermediate hurdles (47.14), while teammate Owen Meulebroeck placed seventh in the 110 hurdles (19.61) and sixth in the 300s (48.21).

Minnewaska Area had three seconds and one third in the relay events for 30 of its 95.5 total points.

The 3200 meter relay team of James Ward, Zach Palmer, Ankeny and Tank placed second in 9:01.04, while the 1600 meter relay team of Ankeny, Jayce Kovarik, Hunter Stadsvold and Ward was also second with a time of 3:59.91, the 400 meter relay team of Stein, Kolton Rogers, Josh Hippe and O’Neil was second with a time of 48.96, and the 800 meter relay team of Meyer, O’Neil, Owen Meulebroeck and Harvey was third with a time of 1:41.04.

In the field events, the Lakers earned just six points as Kovarik was third in the pole vault with a leap of 10-0.
