The Minnewaska Area girls golf team will need to make up eight strokes during the Section 3AA Golf Finals, Wednesday if it wants to return to the state tourney as a team.

The Lakers shot a team total of 342 at the Section 3AA Prelims last Wednesday at Oakdale Golf Course in Buffalo Lake, placing second of 12 teams in a meet won by Redwood Valley with a 334 total. The top team and top five individuals from the other teams qualify to the State Girls Golf Tourney, set for June 13-14.

Last year, the Cardinals and Lakers were tied for first place after the first day before Minnewaska edged Redwood Valley by one stroke in the finals to earn the state berth.

In the results that follow is also information about a dual meet with Lakeville South from May 19-20 at the Minnewaska course.

vs. Lakeville South

Lakeville South edged the Lakers by 13 strokes during a two-day dual between the two schools, Friday and Saturday, May 19-20 at the Minnewaska Golf Course.  Lakeville beat the Lakers by 14 strokes on the first day (347-361) before Minnewaska won by one stroke the second day.

Ava Kollman led the Lakers with a two-day total of 171 on rounds of 88 and 83 to place third overall.

Lakeville South’s Jovie Ordal earned medalist honors with a 159 total on rounds of 78 and 81.

Arivia DeBoer was next for the Lakers with a 173 total (87-86) to earn fourth, while Annika DeBoer was fifth (89-87–176) and Lexi Barsness placed seventh (97-92–189).

Section 3AA Prelims

Redwood Valley had the two lowest scores on the way to winning the Section 3AA Prelims last Wednesday.  Julian Brown had a 76 to earn medalist honors, while teammate Mila Jenniges added a 78 to place second.

Annika DeBoer led the Lakers with a round of 80 to place fourth, while Ava Kollman carded an 81 to tie for fifth, Arivia DeBoer had an 84 to place seventh and Lexi Barsness added a 97 to tie for 23rd.
