SPECIAL WORK SESSION MINUTES

The Minnewaska Area Schools Board of Education met in special session on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 in the Minnewaska Area High School Media Center. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairperson Barsness. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Barsness, T. Reichmann, Lagred, A. Reichmann, Zavadil

Members Absent: Holtberg

Motion by Lagred, seconded by, T. Reichmann to approve the agenda as presented.

During the October 21st regular board meeting, representatives from Lakes Area Enrichment Center (LAEC) approached the Minnewaska Area Schools Board to propose a potential merger with the school district. Following this discussion, the board requested that LAEC provide a detailed presentation at this work session to outline the center’s financial status and to discuss the intended future direction of the program. This presentation provided the board with essential insights to make informed decisions regarding the possible integration of LAEC within the district, including operational, financial, and programmatic considerations.

Two architect firms, JLG Architects of Alexandria, MN, and Wold Architects and Engineers of St. Paul, MN, were in attendance to present to the school board about a potential bond issue project that would go to the voters in FY26. The firm’s presentations covered services provided by the architects for a potential building project.

Motion by Zavadil, seconded by A. Reichmann, to adjourn the meeting at 9:12 p.m.
