Glenwood-Lowry swept a home doubleheader with Benson last Monday night, winning the twinbill 9-1 and 9-0.  The two wins raised the team’s record to 6-4.

In the results that follow is also information about an 8-6 loss at Cold Spring, Saturday, June 21.

Glenwood-Lowry was also set to play at the Montevideo Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, but results of those games will be highlighted next week.  The only game on tap this week is a home game against Wheaton set for Monday, June 30. 

Cold Spring 8, Glen-Low 6

The Lakers dropped to 4-4 overall after losing at Cold Spring, Saturday, June 21 by an 8-6 score.  Cold Spring, which scored four runs in the second and third innings to take an early 8-0 lead, won despite being outhit 12-5.

Glenwood-Lowry committed just one error, but also issued eight walks and a hit batsman to help Cold Spring take the early lead.

The Lakers tried to rally with two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, but fell just short.  G-L had runners on second and third base with one out in the seventh before Cold Spring ended the game with two strikeouts.

Dylan Alexander went 3-for-4 with an RBI-double to lead the G-L offense, while Alex Panitzke was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, and Luke Danielson was 2-for-4 with a run, RBI, two doubles and a stolen base.

Connor Erickson, the first of three Glenwood-Lowry pitchers, was credited with the loss despite not giving up any hits.  He lasted 1 2/3 innings, giving up three runs and four walks with one strikeout.  Pitching in relief were Ryland Martin and Nathan Dell.

Also coming through with hits for the Lakers were Marc Gruber, Erickson, Tyson Metz, Levi Johnson and Dell.

Benson doubleheader

The Lakers swept a doubleheader against Benson last Monday night at home, 9-1 and 9-0.  Marc Gruber earned the victory in the first game and Alex Panitzke pitched a no-hitter through six innings to earn the win in the nightcap.

Dylan Alexander went 3-for-3 with a run, three RBI, a double, walk and stolen base to lead the Lakers during the first-game victory.  He had a single in the first, a two-run single in the second and an RBI-double in the fourth.

Noah Jensen also had a big game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double.

G-L scored all the runs it would need during a five-run second inning, while Benson scored its lone run in the seventh.

Gruber earned the pitching victory.  He pitched six innings and gave up just two hits and three walks while striking out eight.  Ethan Jacobs pitched the seventh and gave up the lone run.

Levi Johnson reached base four times, going 1-for-1 with two runs and three walks, while adding one hit each were Gruber, Alex Panitzke, Riley Dell and Tyson Metz.

•  In the second game, the Lakers scored at least one run in five of their seven at-bats to win easily 9-0.

Alex Panitzke struck out 10 Benson batters through six innings.  He had a no-hitter going through six innings, but gave way to Noah Jensen in the seventh and Benson got its lone hit in the final inning.

Riley Dell was 2-for-3 with a run, double and stolen base and Levi Johnson was 2-for-4 with a run to lead the G-L offense.

Also coming through with hits were Jensen (double), Dylan Alexander, Connor Erickson, Luke Danielson, Zach Gugisberg (triple), Connor Frey and Marc Gruber, who also walked three times, scored three runs and added a stolen base.
