Jr. Legion sweeps two from Benson

The Starbuck Jr. Legion improved to 3-6-1 overall with a doubleheader sweep of Benson last Tuesday night at home, 14-5 and 11-1.
Starbuck was also set to host ACGC for a game, Friday and play at a tournament at Paynesville, Saturday, but results of those two outings will be highlighted next week.
Starbuck doesn’t have any games scheduled for this week, due to the Fourth of July holiday, and is set to get back into action, Tuesday, July 8 at Royalton. Also coming up is a home tournament set for Saturday, July 12.

Starbuck 14-11, Benson 5-1
The Starbuck Jr. Legion swept a pair of games from Benson last Tuesday night at home. Starbuck used an 8-run fifth inning to win the first game, 14-5, and then scored five runs in the sixth inning of the nightcap to end the game early after leading by 10 runs, 11-1.
Callum Disrud-Bailey pitched six innings of relief to help Starbuck win the first game. Marshall Gruber started on the mound, but left after one inning after giving up three runs.
Disrud-Bailey went on to give up four hits, two runs and two walks over the final six innings while striking out nine.
Starbuck had 13 hits in the first game, including Owen Greene, who was 3-for-5 and AJ Svec, who was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Also coming through with two hits each were Ben Toohey and Aron Majerus, while Gruber, Harley Johnson, Brock Jacobs and Sawyer Erickson also had hits for Starbuck.
Starbuck also had the benefit of nine walks with Johnson and Toohey each coaxing two, and Majerus stole two bases.
• In the second game, Marshall Gruber had three hits and drove in four runs to key the Starbuck offense, which led 6-1 after four innings and then scored five in the sixth to end the game early due to the 10-run rule.
Gruber had an RBI-single in the second, a two-run single in the third and another RBI-single in the sixth.
Sawyer Erickson started on the mound for Starbuck Jr. Legion VFW Post 4582. He gave up no hits, no runs and two walks with four strikeouts through two innings. AJ Svec also pitched two innings of shutout ball, striking out five and not allowing any hits or walks.
Sawyer Erickson, Callum Disrud-Bailey and Tyler Swanson each added two hits each for Starbuck, which had 14 hits for the game, while Harley Johnson added a double to score three runs in the sixth.
