Laker football team drops 52-6 decision to Albany

Albany ran for 326 yards and scored on seven of its first eight drives on the way to a 52-6 home win over the Minnewaska Area Lakers, Friday night. It was a home game for the Huskies, but the game was played at Sauk Centre due to unplayable fields at Albany because of rain.
The only time the Huskies failed to score over their first eight possessions was because of the end of the first half.
The Lakers fell to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the sub-district after the loss. Minnewaska Area was set to close out the regular-season, Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Melrose Area before commencing with the playoffs, Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Minnewaska Area is currently the fifth seed in Section 6AAA and if the Lakers can beat Melrose this week, they would open up the playoffs at fourth-seeded Sauk Centre at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24.
If Minnewaska Area loses to Melrose, it would open up the playoffs as the sixth seed and would play at third-seeded Montevideo (unless the Thunderhawks upset Albany in the regular-season finale) in the playoff opener.
NLS and Albany are currently the top two seeds in the section. The Section 6AAA Tourney continues Saturday, Oct. 28 with the semifinals.
• During the Lakers’ loss to Albany, the Huskies went on scoring drives of 55, 57, 39, 49 and 39 yards to open up the game, while the Lakers were forced to punt three times and gave up the ball twice on downs.
Adam Dennis, who had 11 carries for 135 yards, and Drew Lehner, who added 47 yards on six carries, both scored two first-half touchdowns for the Huskies.
Albany scored twice more to open up the second half to increase its 37-0 halftime lead to 52-0 early in the fourth quarter before the Lakers finally put together a nice 9-play, 70-yard touchdown drive to end the game.
Albany had 20 first downs to nine for the Lakers and 345 total yards to 153 for Minnewaska. There were no turnovers in the game. The Lakers got 50 yards rushing from Jack Majerus on 17 carries and another 55 yards on just seven rushes from Carter Meyer. Levi Johnson added nine yards on three carries while also completing 3-of-10 passes for 41 yards. He was sacked two times for -19 yards. Ending with one catch each were Austin Weber, Carter Huckle and Myles Reichmann.
