The Minnewaska Area dance teams opened up the season at the Minnewaska Invitational, Friday night.
Six teams took part in the competition, including Sauk Centre, Montevideo, ACGC, BBE, Moorhead and the Lakers.
Back to lead the team this year again are coach Tana Ziesmer and assistants Morgan Blair, Mikiya Smith and Mariah Hetland.
The Lakers tied for first in the High-Kick competition at the home meet, but lost out on a tiebreaker with Moorhead and ended up placing second.
In the Jazz competition, it was just as close as Minnewaska tied with Moorhead for second place, but lost out on a tiebreaker and placed third. Montevideo won the Jazz competition.
The Lakers were also set to compete at the Rocori Invitational, Saturday, but results from that competition will be highlighted next week.
The Lakers do not have any dance meets scheduled for this week. The next dance competition is set for Tuesday, Dec. 14 at BBE.
