NOTICE OF PLANNING COMMISSION and BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT VACANCY FOR DISTRICT 5
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Pope County Board of Commissioners is seeking to fill a vacancy on the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment with an appointee from Pope County Commissioner District 5. This District includes Leven, Reno, and Westport Townships; the Cities of Long Beach, Villard, and Westport; and the portion of the City of Glenwood North of Minnesota Avenue and West of Franklin Street. The appointment is for a three-year term that will expire December 31, 2027. The meetings are currently held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. This is a unique opportunity for civic involvement as a member of the bodies described below.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission consists of 7 members that serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioner on land use policy planning matters, which guide the future development of the county. Areas of focus include:
• Conducting review of all types of development projects and individual land use requests such as subdivision proposals and conditional use permits.
• Guide the development of the County Comprehensive Plan. Assisting the Board in the formulation of policies and ordinances which implement the Comprehensive Plan, such as amendments to the zoning ordinance, changes in the existing zoning text and maps, etc.
Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment consists of 6 members that
• Hears appeals of decision rendered by administrative officials.
• Interpret unclear provisions in the land use ordinance.
• Decide on applications by which landowners to permit structures which “vary” from the zoning regulations.
