Mary Jo (Hayes) Paukert, 76, of Glenwood, passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital due to natural causes on March 18, 2020.
Mary Josephine Hayes was born in Fresno, Calif., and was the first born of eight children to Henry and Deloris (Walter) Hayes. While she spent most of her time growing up in Minnesota, she always loved the little bit of time she spent back in California during her teenage years. Mary Jo attended beautician school to become a hairdresser and worked in the Twin Cities styling hair in her early years. There are many prom hair stories to be told by many of her siblings and a few of her nieces.
In 1961 she met and dated a boy named Dennis Paukert; things wouldn’t work out, and they would part ways only to run into each other 10 years later. This time they made it work. On May 1, 1971, Mary Jo and Dennis Paukert were united in marriage; they were together just short of 49 years. After difficulties in having their own children in 1976 they decided to adopt a Korean baby. On Jan. 21, 1977, surrounded by many family and friends they received their little girl Susan Lee.
Mary Jo was a hard working devoted wife and mother who was an owner and cut/styled hair professionally for 20 years, then ran the family owned The Office Bar for 10 years and finished her career managing the kitchen at Parkview Court. Anyone who met her remembers her for her great smile, kindness and delicious food she made. She loved spending time in the kitchen.
