Visit Starbuck Depot open house during Heritage Days

From Blaine Pederson, Starbuck

The Starbuck Depot appreciates the news coverage that the Pope County Tribune and Starbuck Times provided for Lefse Dagen 2022.

The combined grand opening of the Lefse Hall of Fame and celebration of the 30th anniversary of the grand opening of the Starbuck Depot was a great success thanks to the many folks that generously volunteered their time to make it possible.

Thank you to Tom’s Food Pride for providing the delicious sheet cakes and DyCast Specialties for helping offset the entertainment cost!

It was an honor to have Audrey Amundson and Joyce Wahlquist and other family members of the Lions Club Lefse Team and Gary Legwold, the Lefse King in attendance.

The world record lefse has been a novelty and item of interest since it was rolled in 1983 and the initial opening of the Hall of Fame pays tribute to those that made it happen.  It is a work in progress and as time goes on we will be adding other things that will make it another reason to visit our area. We would love to hear your ideas and also encourage you to consider sharing your family’s lefse story, tradition, etc. for the display, too.

Come and visit during our next Starbuck Depot open house on July 2, during Heritage Days.  The Starbuck Depot Society is a non-profit organization and relies on community support to make it possible.  We welcome you to stop by during the open house and have a snack, meal, or purchase a souvenir, everything helps. (The new Lefse Hall of Fame, and Caboose tee shirts are a great value)

Other Depot items to mention, Thursday Night on the Town events (Meals and Farmers Market) are scheduled throughout the summer.  The restrooms, picnic area, and bike repair station at the caboose shelter are available for public use.  The one room school and museum is available for class reunions or visits.

You can find out more by following the Starbuck Depot Facebook page.

Tourist must like the way I decorated…

From Timothy Fiala, Glenwood

Seeing that 210th Ave. isn’t part of the DETOUR because 210th Ave. is a township road not a superhighway, so maybe motorists should go the other way and follow the DETOUR. Because in a roundabout way you may have to take a roundabout that will lead you the way to the highway that will take you along the way. After all, taking the long way is the way to go.  Just follow the signs  that lead the way and if you must take the short way be sure to bring a good cheese to go with your “whine.”  Because my First Amendment Right is more important than your “Kohlrabi cheese and whine” Oh and by the way I haven’t seen anyone complain about the inappropriate writing on the sidewall of the Soo line  underpass  that hundreds of thousands of people see.

Oh, by the way just to say, tourists must like the way I have decorated because they go out of their way just to see it.  I just pray we go back to the old days; land of the FREE, home of the BRAVE.
