Golf teams each take top spot

On Friday the Minnewaska boys’ golf team was finally able to get out on a golf course. The Lakers were in Olivia for a West Central Conference meet. The teams played nine holes and the Lakers finished on atop the eight-team field.
Minnewaska was 11 shots ahead of second place Benson, shooting a 177, besting the Braves 188 total. The Lakers were all over the top 5, as Zach Gugisberg took second with a 42, one shot off the top spot. Riley Larson and Logan Kostelecky were in a five-way tie for third place after shooting 44s.
The boys hope to be in action again on Tuesday for a WCC meet in Morris. On Wednesday the Minnewaska boys are set to host a meet at Minnewaska Golf Club with teams from Alexandria, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Osakis expected to compete. The busy week continues on Friday with an invitational in Spicer, followed by another invitational in Willmar on Saturday.

The Minnewaska/BBE girls’ golf team also had a successful start to the season, taking first place by 15 shots over second place Melrose.
Arivia DeBoer finished in third place individually, with Paige Rupp taking fourth and Berkley Steffen in fifth.
The Bluejackets have a WCC meet on Tuesday in Elbow Lake, followed by an invitational in Alexandria on Wednesday.
