I have a correction from last week’s library article which I realized was wrong after the paper came out. David LaRochelle, the author who is visiting our schools Thursday and Friday, has had so many book awards it is hard to keep track. Although “How To Apologize” is my favorite book and was a finalist for 2022 Minnesota Book Award, it was “See The Cat” that won the major Geisel Award. I may be the only one to notice, but I needed to set the story straight before his visit. Many children will be talking about him after this week.
At age 22, Veronique Vincent is the most sought-after model in fashion, gracing the covers of magazines and walking the runways across the globe. Yet, despite being the consummate professional, Veronique wants little of the glamorous life that modeling affords her. The beloved daughter of a hardworking single mother, she has always preferred spending time at home or with her boyfriend. When a quick getaway presents a welcome break, Veronique is thrilled to escape. Then, out of nowhere, a tragic explosion at Zaventem Airport in Brussels changes her life forever in Danielle Steel’s bestseller, “Beautiful.”
We have Brenda Novak’s “Summer on the Island.” After the death of her U.S. senator father, Marlow Madsen travels to the small island off the coast of Florida where she spent summers growing up to help her mother settle the family estate. For Marlow the trip is a chance to reconnect with her friends, Aida and Claire. A leisurely beachfront summer promises the trio of women the opportunity to take deep healing breaths and explore new paths. But when her father’s will reveals an earth-shattering secret that tarnishes his impeccable reputation, Marlow finds herself questioning her entire childhood.
In the children’s section we have “Let’s Go!” Ten adventures through West Central Minnesota by Sheri Holm. This fun book will get the entire family going. One section is dedicated to the Starbuck Dragon Boat Races.
