Annual Kid’s Day set for June 4

Kids’ Day will return on Saturday, June 4 after two years of being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Glenwood Lakes Area Kids Day will celebrate 25 years on Saturday, June 4, from 8: a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at City Park in Glenwood.  A free picnic lunch will be served by the Glenwood Fire Department and will include a hotdog, chips, cookie and water.

All children will need to register at the event before participating in any of the events, according to Kay Blauert, executive director of the Glenwood Lakes Area Welcome Center. Children should have a parent or adult with them throughout the day, she added.

Parents can register  children and sign up for the bike and helmet drawing that takes place at noon. Seven bikes and 16 helmets will be given away at that time.

The complete schedule can be found on the welcome center website WelcomeGlenwood.org. along with the names of the sponsors under Events and Activities.

In 1995 “Take a Kid Fishing” was started by the Glenwood Chamber and Glenwood Fire Department.

In 2001 The Chamber and Fire Department had a Kids’ Day Weekend – Saturday and Sunday.  In 2003 Water Safety and the bike rodeo were added.  I couldn’t find a lot of history on this, stated Blauert,  but it appears that all these different events came together at this time for our current Glenwood Lakes Area Kids’ Day.

The schedule has changed a little over the years, but a lot of the key parts of the day remain the same.
