Lakers and Bluejackets win WCC, head into sections

The Minnewaska boys’ golf team performed well at the pre-section invite, held in Buffalo Lake on Wednesday.
Riley Larson shot a 69 to help the Lakers to a first-place finish, 27 shots ahead of runner-up Luverne.
On Friday the Lakers finished up their WCC schedule, traveling to Montevideo, then heading to Minnewaska Golf Club for the finale.
The team performed well at Montevideo, with all four scores coming in under 40, led by Zach Gugisberg with a 36.
Benson edged the Lakers out in the second match of the day at Minnewaska Golf Club. Gugisberg again set the pace for the team, shooting a 42.

The Minnewaska/BBE girls’ golf team wrapped up another West Central Conference title, winning the final meet of the year at Montevideo on Friday.
Arivia DeBoer shot 79, the best score in the meet. Alissa Thorfinnson’s 81 was good for third place overall.

Both the boys and girls teams will begin Section 3AA action this week at Buffalo Lake. The girls will play on Wednesday and the boys will be at the course on Thrusday, playing for a spot in the state tournament.
