The Lakers had a great week 5 competition, but they didn’t realize how great until the final standings came out Sunday morning.
“The weather, of course, was not great, but looking at the standings, we were in third place, and I saw the opportunity for our team to move into second place. That would be a great accomplishment, considering in week 2 we had slipped down into fifth place,” stated coach Jennie Stone.
With “clusters” of scores, the team not only moved up, they moved all the way into first place to overtake Proctor, who had lead the whole season.
“We beat Proctor this week by over 700 points, and we beat them the last three weeks! I knew we would finish strong, but it was a surprise to pull up the final results and see us up there at #1. Our kids fought hard all season and didn’t give up. We are so proud of them!”
The team also had a good showing in the top 25 in conference, with August Reichmann #5, Dylan Vanzee #6, Levi Schultz #16, and Parker Tauber #24, for the boys.
For the girls, Tabbi Durand ranked #5, Trelana Johnson #6, Zoey Rutten #10, Makayla Hagen #14, and Hannah Marquardt #16.
“The scoring details of the match showed how the clusters of scores, specifically the 48’s, 45’s and 44’s, is what won the match for us,” noted coach Jennie.
It was the final shoot for Hannah Marquardt as she graduates this week. Hannah has been with the team since she was in seventh grade.
“It’s always hard to say goodbye and we always hope they come back and visit,” said coach John Stone.
The team is now gearing up for state and you can feel the excitement!
