The Minnewaska baseball team wrapped up their regular season with a game in Redwood Falls on Tuesday afternoon. The Lakers were taking on the Redwood Valley Cardinals, a member of the southern half of Section 3AA.
The Cardinals struck first, getting a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lakers trailed, 6-0, when they put up a run in the top of the fourth inning. Torii Johnson walked and went to third after a pair of singles by Dylan Alexander and Jack Larson. PJ Johnson lined a two-out double to plate Torii. It would be the only run of the game for Minnewaska.
The Cardinals took a liking to Minnewaska pitching, scoring in every inning while hitting three home runs.
A six-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth brought the game to an early end on the 10-run rule after five innings.
The Lakers ended the season losing four of their last five games, including the final three games in which they gave up an average of over 12 runs per game.
The season ends with the Lakers sporting a 12-7 record, 10-4 in the WCC, good for third place behind Morris and Sauk Centre. The streaky Lakers put together winning streaks of six and four games during the season.
With the section playoffs starting on Saturday, Minnewaska needs to find the same mojo that they had to begin the season when they took their first six contests without a loss.
Minnewaska will play in Paynesville on Saturday at noon. The Lakers are the #5 seed and will play the #4 seeded team from New London-Spicer.
The winner will advance and play immediately after against the #1 seed, the Paynesville Bulldogs.
The other half of the bracket will be playing in Morris, where the Tigers are the #2 seed. ACGC is seeded #3, Montevideo is #6 and West Central is #7.
