Central Square presents the first of three shows in its singer-songwriter showcase on June 25
Knowing that music is innate and vital to all of us, Central Square is welcoming professional musicians and songwriters to their summer Makers’ Markets to perform for the community and provide an opportunity for aspiring and amateur music makers to learn from working musicians.
This month’s market will feature the music of Charlie Roth, Cristina Seaborn, and musical duo Morning Bird. Charlie Roth has been honing the craft of singing and playing guitar and harmonica for over 40 years. He has mastered the art of playing and singing from his heart. Cristina Seaborn is an expert at fiddling and jazz improvisation. She has played with symphonies, quartets, jazz ensembles and folk/rock bands. Her musical background includes influences in classical, jazz, Celtic, bluegrass, Scandinavian and Texas swing fiddle. Morning Bird is comprised of singer-songwriter Rob Wheeler and violinist Jill Burkes, both artists from the Hibbing area. The two harmonize together on classic folk covers and originals.
In addition to music, art and artisanal crafts, June’s market includes food and other happenings such as face painting, an art exhibition and free indoor movie. The Pope County Humane Society will also be there to show off their adoptable dogs.
As a regional leader among cultural organizations, Central Square recognizes that music is a place we can all come together. Central Square’s goal for this series is to make it possible for people of any age or skill level to be inspired through performances, storytelling and an instructional musician’s circle which will take place an hour prior to the performance.
The summer music series has been made possible by the support of local business sponsorships and strategic partnerships within the community. “We are exceptionally fortunate to have community partners like the Humane Society involved. And each of our shows this summer is sponsored by a local business. American Diversity is the sponsor for our first show. Diane Zavadil didn’t hesitate to say yes when we approached her about sponsorship. She, like us, believes access is a core value of our organization, and that we should always strive to ensure that each person in our community has an equal opportunity to participate and thrive through engagement with the arts in all forms,” said Cheryl Larson, Executive Director of Central Square.
Central Square’s Makers’ Market and Summer Music on the Lawn series will take place on June 25th, July 23rd, and August 27th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Bring a blanket, a lawn chair and share the fun with your friends and family! Weather back-up is the Central Square gym and auditorium.
