From June 21, 1912
Dr. C.R. Christensen had moved into his pretty new bungalow on the north slope in town, a fountain with a continual stream of water running adorns the front lawn.
C.M. Pederson of Rolling Forks brought Rev. Tolo of Belgrade and two delegates to Starbuck in his auto from the “Kredsmote” in Langhei.

Serrin and Merrill were the winners in the Legislative Contest in the county at the primary. Judge Barsness and A.G.J. Anderson were high in the race for probate judge; Avok & Berg in the 4th Commissioners District; Bjokne and Hamstad in the 5th District; Gandrud and Achter in the 2nd District; Dickson and Kittelson in the 3rd District.
Three-cent postage would go into effect July 6, 1932.
Mrs. W.W. Larson and Miss Magna Peterson were hostesses to the Legion Auxiliary Tuesday afternoon at the lake cottage of Dr. and Mrs. Larson.

Cordellia Sylvester of Cyrus, who graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture last spring, had just been advised that her essay entitled “How my Home Economics Education Helps at Home” won honorable mention in the national contest recently conducted by the Home Makers Educational Service. There were over 1,000 essays entered.

A class of eleven were confirmed at the Rolling Forks church. They were Arthur Amundson, Leo Dahl, Ardis Erickson, Gerhard Jacobson, Lloyd Jergenson, Orville Knutson, Lucille Kolstad, Donald Lagred, Roy Schwendemann, Lorraine Slaughter and Willard Slaughter.
Miss Carol Larson, who had taken a course in water safety at Excelsior Park, would start on Monday, June 29 as Pope County’s swimming instructor.
A friend of Father Shea of Benson, visiting him at his cottage on Lawrence Point, recently told of seeing Starbuck Creamery butter advertised. On a sign in the Lynes Restaurant in the Cecil Hotel, London, England, the following was posted: The butter used in this hotel is made in Starbuck, Minn.

The grand opening of the Hilden Hardware and Appliance Store would be held Saturday. Miss Hilden, who was a piano teacher, and their children, Loretta, 15, and Gary, 9, arrived here after the Minneapolis schools were out.
Hartwig Pederson was in the hospital, suffering from shock and bruises as the result of an auto accident.

Mrs. Wesley Johnson and Mrs. L.W. Brown left from Minneapolis on a chartered bus for Washington, D.C. where they would attend the National Convention of Women’s Federated Clubs. Mrs. C.H. Heggestad of Windom, former member of the Starbuck Study Club, joined them in Minneapolis.
The worst hail storm in many years struck the Starbuck area about 7:30 Sunday evening, damaging crops, cars and buildings. Hail stones as large as three to six inches across were reported in some parts of the area. Damage was most severe south of the lake. Hardest hit were the farmsteads of Ellsworth Thompson, Gordon and Allen Hagestuen, Amanda Lindquist and A.J. Douma. Harold Hagen lost 491, 15-week-old turkeys and over 200 were crippled. The downpour that came with the storm was more serious than hail damage in some places, for already sodden fields were flooded again, making additional planting this season almost impossible.

THe Starbuck High School Marching Band and Buck-ettes were on the march this week. The troup traveled to Clara City on Wednesday to participate in the annual “Rodeo Days” parade. Saturday, the band would go to Willmar for their annual Kaffe Fest parade and Thursday evening, there would be no band concert at the park because of marching engagements.
David Wollan, local mail carrier for the past sixteen years, announced that he was retiring. Before becoming a mail carrier, he was the Starbuck Post Master for 5-1/2 years.

The VFW Auxiliary Post 4582 installed new officers in ceremonies held at the clubrooms in Starbuck. The officers included Juniel Stageland, chaplin; Marge Johnson, secretary; Charlotte Hanson, president; Carol Engh, treasurer; Elaine Tharaldson, junior vice president and color bearer; Dorothy Brevig, color bearer; Marilyn Staples, musician; Jeanette Johnson, patriotic instructor; Dorothy Schennum, trustee; Anjie Hagen, trustee; Hilma Larson, conductress and color bearer; Alice Colden, guard and Alice Norby, senior vice president.
Miriam Forbord, 1982 Pope County Dairy Princess was crowned the Region V Dairy Princess at Hancock Dairy Days.
Randall Anderson had been accepted as a student at the University of Minnesota Technical College in Crookston for the fall quarter.

Tammy Hovendick of Starbuck was named the runner-up in the Region 5 Dairy Princess contest held in Willmar.
Daniel C. Corson was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Studies at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks in May.
The Pope County 4-H Field Day was held at the Starbuck Elementary School last Saturday. The sportsmanship award was presented to the Busy Beaver Club. Placing in the Senior Division Softball Tournament was the Lakeview 4-H Club. Pictured in the Times was the winner of the Junior Division Softball Tournament, the Wide Awake Club.
A new Little Miss Starbuck would be crowned at the Heritage Days celebration. Girls in the running were: Jessica Noyes, Jamie Chlian, Theresa Beuckens, Paige Bangsund, Sara Koos, Jennifer Johnsrud, Sarah Gulso, Michelle Anderson, Taya Staples, Therese Freeman and Amy Baukol.

The 20th annual Heritage Days was ready to begin! Special events would include performances by the Runestone Rockettes, Over 60 band and Chris Atkins.
Nearly 300 motorcyclists rode through Starbuck Saturday afternoon as part of the Pope County Hospice ride. Riders headed through Starbuck to Cyrus, then to Lowry, Villard and back to Glenwood.
Is it a kayak? Duck Boat? Fishing boat for hard-to-reach places? The Canvasback was all of these things but not limited to any one of them. Inventor Ken Reese cruised across wildlife areas with his battery powered Canvasback, paddle included for close maneuvering.

Local resident Megan Tangen won the nationwide sweepstakes for the Miller High Life Big Bass Derby. She received a two night, three day stay at Kruger Farms and entrance into the Big Bass Derby on Lake Minnewaska on June 23.
The General Federated Woman’s Club (GFWC) Potpourri was one of 58 clubs (1,420 members) in Minnesota volunteering to improve the lives of those in their communities. Pictured in the Times were club attendees dressed in costumes for The Mad Hatter’s Tea: Sylvia Gunderson, Sharon Larson, JoAnne Peterson, Darlene Femrite, Elaine Christianson, Donna Hahn, Marj Lang, Lesley Hoplin and Pat Lepper.
The Starbuck Stars earned a victory over the Morris Eagles on Saturday with a 6-3 win. Starbuck earned 10 hits against Morris. Starbuck defeated Regal 4-3 on Sunday with a big seventh inning with a two RBI single by Shane Bosek breaking the 1-1 tie. The Stars would have two members participating in the All-Star game coming up. Zach Lagred would be playing third base and Jon Hoffmann would be pitching.
