Learn simple techniques to safely clean cemetery monuments at a one-day workshop hosted by the Pope County Historical Society (PCHS). An expert crew from Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps is spending a full week working at the Glenwood Cemetery. On Friday, Aug. 12, they will share their expertise with us in a hands-on workshop. Participants will learn easy, low impact, routine maintenance procedures that make a big impact on the neat appearance of a cemetery. The moss and lichen that makes monuments difficult to read look nearly new after treatment.
The workshop begins at 10 a.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery, and wraps up at 3 p.m. The $20 registration fee includes basic tools required, and a box lunch.
The David & Janis Larson Foundation is funding repair and preservation at the Glenwood Cemetery as part of a grant to PCHS. This workshop is part of the grant project.
Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps receives support from the Minnesota Legacy Fund which is financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society.
The Glenwood Cemetery Association maintains the grounds with funds from the sale of burial plots, interest from investments and from memorial gifts. As you research your family ancestry and visit their graves, consider a gift to the Cemetery Association.
