Wind damages large tree

The 30th annual state conference of social work opens at Glenwood, Sept. 9, to continue to Sept. 12. Virtually every phase of social work will be represented at the state conference. Social workers from all parts of the state will be in attendance.

The Minnewaska Hotel has been having a very large patronage during the last three weeks. Mr. Foss states that they have during this time been full to the roof. Both hotel and cottage, and that at times it has been necessary to turn people away.

A heavy wind and hail storm broke over the village yesterday afternoon about 4 o’clock. A large tree on the lot back of Wollan Bros Garage was blown down and many of the branches were stripped off and strewn down the Main Street. Hay and grain stacks were blown over for some farmers.

On last Friday afternoon the sad news reached our city that Willard Hammond, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hammond of our city had met death by drowning in Lake Amelia.
