Happenings at Central Square
Now that the busy month of July has ended, get your kids signed up for art classes at Central Square! There are still five weeks of youth art programming available for ages 6-11 years old. Classes run from this Wednesday, Aug. 3, until Wednesday Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The classes will help kids explore their imagination and creativity and learn a variety of art techniques. Visit centralsquare.org for class details.
Art in the Square Gallery
Make sure to stop by the Central Square Art Gallery to view the exciting exhibit featuring the work of Jules Bowman. The exhibit runs now through August.
Jules will be returning to the gallery for an exhibit closing reception on Aug. 27. The storms kept many people away from her opening exhibit on July 23, and Central Square received many requests to bring her back. Jules agreed to return for the closing of her exhibit and will also lead another yoga class!
Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are interested in purchasing Jules’ work, visit the Central Square office or call 320-634-0400.
Coming Soon
Do you love to draw? Whether you are new to drawing or it is a professional pastime, join artist Faythe Mills who will lead a pencil portrait class on Aug. 18, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Registration for this class is $45. Sign up by calling 320-634–0400 or visiting https://ticketpeak.co/centralsquare.
Mark your calendars for Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Central Square’s final outdoor Makers’ Market featuring Music on the Lawn. This will be the last event in their singer/songwriter showcase of 2022. Plans are already underway for the 2023 series! More details coming soon.
Thank You
Central Square is grateful for all who joined them for the Mick Sterling show on Saturday! They would like to thank Glenwood State Bank for sponsoring the music, Rolling Forks Vineyard for providing the beverage service and American Solutions for Business for giving away cash prize giveaways. The support of local businesses demonstrates the importance of art programming in Pope County!
Food for Thought
“A sense of purpose is often forged through art. Art is especially important when it comes to aging well. When individuals start gaining in years, a sense of uncertainty can start to emerge. Careers and family that once were the primary activities for individuals no longer have the same prominence in their lives as they once had.
“Experts say that this lingering void can affect health and overall emotional well-being. However, artistic activities encourage problem solving in seniors, help them discover new sources of satisfaction and give them a sense of pride – especially when they share their artistic achievements, no matter how great or small, with family and friends.” ~Chicagoland Blog
