Happenings at Central Square

Mark your calendars for Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Central Square’s final outdoor Makers Market featuring Music on the Lawn. This will be the last event in their singer/songwriter showcase of 2022. If you have attended the first two shows, you know how talented and engaging the visiting musicians are. If you were unable to attend, you do not want to miss the opportunity to hear these amazing singer/songwriters as they combine music and storytelling. These events are truly special!

Now that the busy month of July has ended, get your kids signed up for art classes at Central Square! There are still a few spots available for the last three weeks of youth art programming available for ages 6-11 years old. Classes run from this Wednesday, Aug. 10, until Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The classes will help kids explore their imagination and creativity and learn a variety of art techniques. Visit centralsquare.org for class details.

Art in the Square Gallery

Make sure to stop by the Central Square Art Gallery to view the exciting exhibit featuring the work of Jules Bowman. The exhibit runs now through Aug. 27.

Jules will be returning to the gallery for an exhibit closing reception on Aug. 27. The storms kept many people away from her opening exhibit on July 23, and Central Square received so many requests to bring her back that Jules agreed to return for the closing of her exhibit. She will also lead another yoga class from 10–11 a.m. before her closing reception!

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays by appointment. If you are interested in purchasing Jules’ work, visit the Central Square office or call 320-634-0400.

Food for Thought

“If you want to firm up your body, head to the gym. If you want to exercise your brain, listen to music…Listen to what [music] your kids or grandkids listen to, experts suggest. Often, we continue to listen to the same songs and genre of music that we did during our teens and 20s, and we generally avoid hearing anything that’s not from that era.

“New music challenges the brain in a way that old music doesn’t. It might not feel pleasurable at first, but that unfamiliarity forces the brain to struggle to understand the new sound.” ~Johns Hopkins Health and Wellness Blog
