Lakers fall to Thunderhawks, 45-18

Montevideo’s Francis O’Malley ran for 348 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the Thunderhawks to a 45-18 victory over Minnewaska Area during a Mid State 1 game at Montevideo, Friday night.
O’Malley scored three first-half touchdowns to lead the Thunderhawks to a 21-12 halftime lead and then scored four more touchdowns in the second half as the Lakers couldn’t stay up with the Montevideo ground game.
Minnewaska Area fell to 0-4 with the loss and things don’t get any easier this week as the Lakers are set to host Rockford (2-2) for the annual Homecoming game at 7 p.m.
Montevideo 45, Lakers 18
Francis O’Malley scored early and often and the Thunderhawk offense churned for 479 yards and 26 first downs on the way to a 45-18 victory, Friday night.
O’Malley, who had 348 yards on 26 carries, scored on runs of 3, 7 and 74 yards in the first half and then added touchdown runs of 10, 23, 8 and 58 yards in the second half for 183 of his 348 total yards.
Minnewaska scored in the first quarter on a 68-yard pass from Levi Johnson to Austin Weber to tie up the game at 6-6 and went up 12-6 on a 5-yard touchdown run by Chase Boelke early in the second.
Montevideo scored its second touchdown right after the Boelke TD and added a two-point to go up good at 14-12.
The Thunderhawks led 39-12 before the Lakers scored their third touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Johnson to Blake Andreas. All three of the Lakers’ conversion attempts failed.
The Lakers had 268 yards of total offense, with Johnson going 12-for-22 passing for 206 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Andreas had four catches for 55 yards, Austin Weber had three for 91, Jack Majerus had three for 47 and Hunter Kloos had two for 13.
Boelke was the leading rusher with 69 yards on nine carries, while Majerus had 22 yards on nine rushes.
Myles Reichmann led the defense with seven tackles, followed by Carter Meyer, Boelke and Majerus with four tackles each. Montevideo did not turn the ball over while the Lakers threw one interception and lost one fumble.
Montevideo QB Cooper Dack was 3-of-9 passing for 40 yards, while the rest of the Montevideo ground game (besides O’Malley) gained 91 yards on 20 carries.
