Lauryn Ankeny (Girls Cross-Country)

Lauryn Ankeny, a ninth-grader with the Minnewaska Area girls cross-country team, is the latest Laker “Athlete of the Week,” selected by cross-country coach Jennifer Johnsrud.  Lauryn is the daughter of Beth and Dane Ankeny.

During the first seven meets, Ankeny has placed first at LQP, second twice, third twice, fifth and sixth to lead the Laker girls’ team.  “Lauryn exemplifies the term Laker Tough,” coach Johnsrud said.  “Every practice and every meet she gives 110% effort.  Lauryn is a calm and quiet leader, yet her work ethic and focus are contagious.

“She does all the little things to make herself and her team better. She has led our team all season, and I am excited to see where her talent and work ethic will take her in post -season competition.”

The Laker girls have placed first at two meets, the LQP and Morris Area Invitationals, while also placing second at three other meets.
