Wondering what is acceptable to charge or pay for land rent in Minnesota? Recently, farmer profits are down and farmland rental rates have declined slightly while commodity prices have decreased significantly. These factors make determining a fair profitable farm rental agreement a challenge in today’s economy.

University of Minnesota Extension Farmland Rental Workshops help farmers, landlords and ag professionals determine a fair farmland rental rate. Presenters review historical rental rates throughout Minnesota and use data-driven decisions to help determine a fair value for land.

Extension hosts free workshops held across the state starting in November. Ag Business Management Extension educators help farmers and landowners determine a fair farmland rental rate for both parties.

Workshops cover local historic and projected farmland rental rate trends and current farmland values and sales. We also walk through a worksheet to help participants create a fair rental agreement.

Meetings will be held in Alexandria on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 9:30 a.m. and repeat again at 1:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Public Works meeting room located at 526 Willow Drive. Drive past administration parking until you see sign for meeting room parking.  Meetings will last approximately two hours. There is no pre-registration or cost to attend. In the event of inclement weather, please contact the Farm Information Line at 800-232-9077.
