Misses Minnie Caroline Scheflo are now working in Arne Stoen’s cooking car.
Mrs. George W. Hughes gave a birthday party for Francis last Friday evening after school. Mr. Francis was nine years old that day and the idea was to have a party inviting as many of his very best friends from his class at school as he was number of years old, but the number nine wouldn’t contain them, so ten little guests were present. Francis is a scholar in the fourth grade already.
It looks a little cheap to attend a wedding reception without being invited, or what do you think?
The Merry Farmers Boys Band has been thinking about building a band stand this fall.

Rev. Chr. Pederson and Olaus Pederson, who are twins, celebrated their 70th birthdays Sunday, When their relatives gathered at the Albert Pederson home to enjoy the day.
A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Skaaden on Saturday.
The Seniors of the local High School entertained the Juniors and the H. S. Faculty at the Moonlight wiener roast at Spring Grove Monday evening.
Among these from town who attended the Ladies Aid at the Indherred Parsonage Wednesday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Chalenburg, Miss Clara Simonson, Dr. Larson, Rev. Eugene Aal and G. I. Engebretson of Lowry also attended the Aid.

Mrs. Laura Forde Giere will appear in a recital at the auditorium of the Minneapolis College of Music on Friday evening. She is a pupil of Countess Helena Mortsztyn.
Miss Stacha Landa of Reno Township and Franklin Eugene Hagen of Glenwood were married at the Minnewaska Parsonage at 4:30 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon Rev. O.C. Dahlager officiating.
On Wednesday morning last week Starbuck was blanketed with snow which melted on Friday night. There was considerable thunder and lightning.
The Little Citizens League of Dist. 90, near Williams Smedstads will give a George Washington program Friday evening, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. Pie and coffee will be sold after the program and social time will be enjoyed by all.

Orville Hagen, proprietor of Orvie’s Cafe, left on Monday for St. Cloud where he was sworn in as a Sea Bee in the Navy. He was transferred to Great Lakes Naval Station where he is stationed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Harvey Sylvester, 83, were held from Immanuel Lutheran Church Monday. She is survived by three children, Mrs. Heler (Severina) Holverson, Theodore and Clarence.
A large group of relatives and friends gathered at the Ole J. Vinge home Oct. 8 to honor Otto Vinge on his 26th birthday. He received three birthday cakes and many beautiful gifts.
A number of relatives and friends visited at the Henry Larson home Sunday evening in observance of Frances’ 7th birthday and Adeline’s 12th birthday.
On Tuesday evening, Christ Westby dropped a storm window on his foot, fracturing his toe.
Mrs. Henry Aslagson has been seriously ill in a hospital in Bastrop, Texas, suffering from poisoning caused by drinking water. She is much improved.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Bethany Lutheran church for Verner Rundquist, who passed away at the Minnewaska Hospital.
Henry Hendrickson has secured the Dodge agency for Starbuck and will move next week into the Nodland Garage, which he formerly occupied.
About 175 relatives and friends gathered at West Zion Lutheran church Sunday in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hoverud on their 25th wedding anniversary.
Little Karen Bothum was baptized Sunday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Bothum, by the Rev. Oscar Rem.
Dorothy Erdman of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Iver Kjera of Fairbanks, Alaska, were married at Coeur d’Alene recently. Mr. Kjera is a son of Mrs. Sophie Kjera of Starbuck.

Bucks play to 20-20 tie with Herman. The Starbuck Bucks came back from a 20-13 half-time deficit to tie with Herman in their homecoming contest Friday. The Bucks got off to an early lead when they punted to the Herman 22-yard line.
The Immanuel Lutheran congregation of rural Starbuck will observe its 90th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 14. The celebration will be combined with their annual Mission Sunday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Corn produced in Pope County this year is supported at $1.11 per bushel, the same as the 1961 support rate. In making this announcement, C. H. Bennett, County ASC committee Chairman, stressed the importance of a full understanding by growers of how the 1962 Feed Grain Program affects price supports.

According to a release by the Minnesota State Board of Education, the Starbuck school district received a $3,478 grant to be used for purchasing a school bus.
The Board of Directors of the Starbuck Ambulance Service Inc. has purchased a new 1973 Chevrolet ambulance announced Larry Kittelson, chairman of the board. Bids were advertised a few weeks ago and three firms responded. At the bid opening Monday evening, Northern SS Sales, a Minneapolis company was a low bidder with a figure of $11,263 which includes air conditioning.
Starbuck’s Fire Department held an open house Sunday to begin “Fire Prevention Week.” Several hundred people visited the local department’s headquarters, inspected the fire fighting equipment and had refreshments with the fireman. Winners of the drawing were Wesley Johnson, fire extinguisher and Lisa Engebretson, the toy fire truck. The Starbuck creamery donated the milk for the lunch while Larry’s Bakery donated the doughnuts.

Through the cooperation of the City of Starbuck and the handiwork of Mr. Harold Meyer, Starbuck can now boast of having its own lighthouse on Lake Minnewaska. The 24’ high tower is located at the point of entry into the Starbuck Marina and offers a steady guiding light for boaters.
The National Sr. Vice Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) will be the guest speakers at nine V.F.W. posts over a four day period, October 21 through 24, 1982.
The Lakeview 4-H Club was named the Outstanding Club for Pope County at the Annual 4-H awards night Saturday, at the Starbuck High School. They received a plaque from Rick Banke of the Runestone Electric association.

Starbuck Post #4582 VFW donates flag. Local and State VFW officials were present last Sunday as the Starbuck VFW post #4582 donated a new 8’ x 12’ American flag to be flown at the Minnewaska Area High School.

The Cyrus School District is fighting a battle to keep their elementary school open. The district is trying to pass a levy referendum which would raise taxes, but the additional funds would allow Cyrus Elementary to remain open for at least seven more years.
County commissioners unanimously voted at Wednesday’s meeting to earmark $350,000 of the county’s revenue balance fund for environmental remediation, with water quality efforts taking top priority.
It may look abandoned or like a tornado ran off with its roof, but neither is true. The Moglers are just attempting to renovate the old house on Highway 28. The remodeling is entirely a family affair and though many families would not survive such a project and still be on speaking terms, it seems the Moglers will not only survive, but be stronger for it.

At the Cyrus City Council meeting on September 11, Pat Conroy of Widseth, Smith and Nolting addressed the council about possibly applying for grant money through the small cities development program to get additional grant money for the city water system improvement project besides the grant the city is already looking at through the Rural Development Agency.
Starbuck native Matt Anderson pens a political novel with a twist: a fresh idea steeped in American history.
Andrew Pederson has been awarded a Founders Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Pederson is a graduate of Minnewaska Area High school and son of Blaine and Karla Pederson of Starbuck.
