Majerus and Blair earn All-District honorable mention for Lakers

The Minnewaska Area football team announced several season-ending awards recently at its season-ending banquet. The Lakers went 0-9 this season, including an 0-5 record in the Mid State 1 District.
Earning All-District honorable mention this season were junior Jack Majerus and senior Brady Blair.
Majerus ended the season with 548 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 127 carries, while also catching eight passes for 83 yards and snaring a team-high five interceptions.
Blair meanwhile, was a key offensive and defensive lineman for the Lakers, earning one of seven sacks for Minnewaska Area this fall.
• Earning the Dan Wold Award was senior Conner Stein, a wide receiver, defensive back and punter for the Lakers, who was injured early in the season.
• Selected for All-District Academic honors were Chase Smith, Carter Meyer, Levi Johnson, Austin Weber, Jack Majerus, Owen Meulebroeck, Myles Reichmann, Jack Larson, Lucas Tauber, Kaiden Harvey, Drew Winter and Oliver Rieland.
• During the final Mid State 1 Football Standings, Pierz, Rockford and Morris Area-CA tied for first with 4-1 records, while Melrose Area was fourth (2-3), Montevideo fifth (1-4) and Minnewaska Area sixth (0-5).
The Lakers scored 102 points this season while giving up 395 points. Minnewaska Area lost to Albany in the opening round of the Section 6AAA Tourney and Albany lost to NLS in the championship.
The NLS Wildcats went on to earn a berth in the state Class AAA championship game at Target Stadium in Minneapolis.
Assisting coach Lyle this fall were Nathan Snider, Ryan Christianson, Trevor Solem, Jason Weber, Chris Lence, Brian Walker, Andrew Goracke, Dan Dahl and Matt Meagher.
• Seniors lost to graduation from this year’s team are Paul Johnson, Jr., Conner Stein, Blake Andreas, Hunter Kloos, Cole Baker, Ethan Barron, Chase Boelke, Brady Blair and Jack Larson.
• Members of the C-squad football team this year were ninth-graders Riley Dell, Marc Gruber, Tate Anderson, Braylen Scharmer, Carter Huckle, Riley Week, Kearri Dickens, Asante Adams, Luke Danielson, Tyson Metz, Evan Armstrong, Jackson Marquardt, Kolton Rogers, Joel Lange, Oliver Van Der Hagen, Eric Bowen, Alan Svec, Tristan O’Neil, Ike Spychalla and Ethan Jacobs.
