Minnewaska Area High School played host to a Donkey Ball fundraiser for the Trevor Solem family last Wednesday night.  The night also included a silent auction, free will donation meal, donkey rides for the youth and other fun activities.

Members of the MAHS Student Council, BPA and FFA groups sponsored the fundraising event and they each had a team for Donkey Ball, along with a team made up of community members.

During the first game, the BPA students beat the FFA and in the second game, the Student Council nipped the community members.  That put the BPA and Student Council in the championship game and the BPA team pulled out a narrow win.

In between the first and second games, area youth were given the opportunity to ride across the gym on a donkey with the help of FFA student members.  One of the main rules of Donkey Ball was that players must be on the donkey to pass to a teammate or take a shot.  One player (Blake Nelson, below) had the “shot of the night” when he stood on his donkey and dunked the basketball.

In all, almost 1,000 people were estimated to be in attendance for at least a part of the Donkey Ball event and all the money raised went to the Solem family; Keshia, Easton and JJ Solem.
