The Pope County Board of Commissioners last week set the date and time for the “board of appeal and equalization” meeting for Monday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. The date gets set early in the year so that when property valuation notices go out, the date can be included, it was stated.
A request was brought before the board to update the designation of representatives for the Central Minnesota Emergency Services board. Currently the designation includes Sheriff Riley and Deputy Brecht. The CMES board meets at the same time as several other boards that the pair attend so the request for additional representative was granted and Kim Joos, Sheriff’s Office Manager and Emergency Management Staff, was appointed to the board.
A resolution was passed to clarify and affirm per diem paid as reasonable allowance for members of county boards and committees for the year. The board of commissioners passed a resolution on December 27 that its members will receive as a reasonable allowance per diem rate of $100 per day. This resolution clarified that the applicable per diem rate applies to appointed boards, advisory boards and committees.
An amendment to the agreement with the Pope County Attorney and Obenland and Nelson for office expenses was discussed and approved. The agreement was changed to include the payment for services to the county provided by the firm’s administrative staff. It also includes payments of rent, subscriptions and dues as provided in the county attorney’s budget.
Discussion was held regarding the vacant at-large representative position on the Pope County Extension Committee. The appointment was tabled at the January 3 meeting in order to find a candidate. A candidate has expressed interest in the committee assignment, but some guidelines need to be addressed before an official appointment, it was stated at the meeting. The candidate previously served on the committee several years ago and since the position has a term limit this information requires a review.
The board discussed and paid the auditor bills, supplemental bills, per diems and employee reimbursements. Following a recap of meetings they attended over the last week and upcoming meeting schedules, the meeting was adjourned.
