Students at Minnewaska Area Elementary School are excited to “Read Around the World” as they participate in “I Love to Read” activities during the month of February.  During the all-school assembly kick-off, where students learned how reading “ties us together,” everyone participated in a sing-along of Beads on One String by Dennis Warner.  It illustrated how everyone is more alike than they are different and was led by Ms. Listerud, Mr. Lempka and Mr. Weaver. The children even made their own string with beads representing each student and staff member, which line the hallways in the school building.

Throughout the month, there are many fun activities planned, including:

•A reading challenge inviting students to learn about people, animals, places and more from each of the seven continents. A special shout out to Mr. Greene’s 5th graders for supporting them with the read-alouds!

•Dress up days to celebrate their love for reading.

•Penny War to raise money for Reading4Research – a foundation created by the University of Minnesota to aid in funding research for pediatric cancer.

•Bookmark Design Contest

•Family Books and Bingo event and more.
