Have you ever attended a turtle art show or even heard of one? The exhibits promise to be an event for all ages to enjoy!
Thank you to all the Minnewaska Area Schools 7th – 12th graders who entered the BeKind contest with the theme, “Keep Going Keep Growing Kindness” in celebration of the 5th Anniversary of the movement. Over 70 entries featured creative drawings and paintings of turtles. As this year’s mascot, turtles represent determination, wisdom and longevity as everyone strives to make intentional acts of kindness a norm in Pope County and beyond.
The winner of the contest is Autumn VonFeldon. Her beautiful colored pencil drawing, will be featured at Central Square’s Art in the Square Gallery from March 13 – April 28, Monday – Thursday from 10 am – 4:00 pm. We’re excited to announce that all the student entries will be on display as they provide a beautiful array of talent. Thank you to each student who participated and to MAHS Art Teacher, Marit Salveson, for supporting and promoting the opportunity.
Everyone is invited to a BeKind 5th Anniversary reception in the first-floor community room on Friday, April 28th from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. Along with the reception and the “Myrtle the Turtle & Friends” Art Show, you may also want to experience, The Great Dubois Masters of Variety Show, in the Central Square Auditorium from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Check it out on their website at centralsquare.org.
All ages are invited to create turtles for an intergenerational display at the Pope County Fair on August 2nd – 5th. All mediums of art (clay, wood, paint, fabric, charcoal, sculpture, printmaking, watercolor, pottery, coloring and even Legos!) are welcome. People’s Choice Awards will highlight early childhood – adult categories. Start your project now to showcase at the fair as the celebration continues for the 5th Anniversary of the BeKind movement.
