The Minnewaska Area boys tennis team earned the fourth seed in the upcoming Section 8A Boys Tennis Tournament, set for Tuesday (tomorrow) through Thursday, May 25 at Crookston High School.

The Lakers, who are 11-7 overall heading into the section tourney, will face fifth-seeded Fergus Falls in the opener.  Thief River Falls earned the top seed followed by Crookston and NLS.

Playing for the Lakers in the Section 8A Individual Tourney, also set for this week, are Landon Schiffler (15th seed) and Riley Thorfinnson (12th seed) in singles, and Tenzin Dahl-Connor Quelle and Drew Bleick-Carter LeClair in doubles.  Dahl and Quelle earned the third seed, while Bleick and LeClair are seeded fifth.  

Last year, the Lakers qualified to the state tourney where they went 1-2 and Tate Reichmann also advanced in singles, going 2-2 at state to place fourth.

During last week’s action, the Lakers fell to Sartell (5-2) and Foley (6-1) at the Sartell triangular before beating Fergus Falls, Thursday, 5-2.

The Lakers fell to 10-7 overall with a pair of losses at the Sartell triangular last Tuesday.  Minnewaska fell to Sartell in one match, 5-2, and also lost to Foley in the other, 6-1.

Tenzin Dahl and first doubles picked up the only points during the loss to Sartell.  Dahl earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles and the first doubles’ team of Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair earned the other point with a 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-8 tiebreaker victory.

•  During the loss to Foley, Tenzin Dahl won again for the Lakers at second singles, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) for his team’s only point.  

Waska 5, Fergus Falls 2

The Lakers used a revamped lineup, but still had little problem in beating Fergus Falls, Thursday, 5-2.

Drew Bleick led a sweep in singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles, while Noah Palmer won 6-0, 6-3 at second singles, Carter LeClair prevailed 6-4, 6-3 at third singles and Riley Thorfinnson earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at fourth singles.

The Lakers also earned a point at first doubles where Connor Quelle and Tenzin Dahl warmed up for the Section 8A Individual Tourney by earning a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
