The Minnewaska Area girls golf team placed first at the opening WCC meet last Tuesday at the Tipsinah Golf Course near WCA.  The Lakers also had four of the top five scores on the way to earning the victory.

One day later, the Lakers placed fourth of 13 teams at the Alexandria Invitational.  Arivia and Annika DeBoer led the Lakers with rounds of 85 to tie for sixth overall.

This week, Minnewaska Area has a very busy week with a pair of WCC meets at Sauk Centre and Melrose, Tuesday (tomorrow), followed by the Minnewaska Girls Invitational, Friday, and another Alexandria Invitational, Saturday, May 6.

WCC meet at WCA

The Lakers finally got in their WCC golf opener last Tuesday at the Tipsinah Golf Course hosted by WCA.

Minnewaska Area had four of the top five golfers on the way to a 328 total, which won the meet by 36 strokes over runner-up BOLD (364).  Melrose was third (441), followed by Benson, Sauk Centre, WCA and Morris Area.

It looks like it will be a two-school battle for this year’s girls’ WCC title.

The schools had also been set to golf at Morris the same day, but due to wet playing conditions at the Pomme de Terre Golf Club, the meet at Morris was pushed back to Tuesday, May 16.

Kenna Henriksen, of BOLD, earned medalist honors with an 18-hole round of 76, but the next four best scores belonged to the Lakers.

Ninth-grader Ava Kollman was second overall with a round of 79, while sophomore Arivia DeBoer was third with an 81, ninth-grader Annika DeBoer was fourth with an 83 and sophomore Lexi Barsness was fifth with an 85.
