Girls golf team earns sweep of WCC golf

The Minnewaska Area girls golf team won its eighth-straight WCC meet title last Tuesday at Morris to give the Lakers another conference title.
The Lakers totaled 170 strokes to win by four over BOLD and give Minnewaska 56 points for the season. BOLD finished second in the league race with 46 points, followed by Melrose (42), Benson (28), Sauk Centre (24), Morris Area-CA (18) and WCA (10).
Minnewaska Area also golfed at Brainerd last Wednesday, placing seventh of 13 teams in a meet won by Elk River.
The Lakers were also set to host an invitational, Friday and Saturday and results from that competition will be highlighted next week. Minnewaska now gears up for the Section 3AA Golf prelims, set for Wednesday, May 24 at the Oakdale Golf Course in Buffalo Lake.
WCC meet at Morris
The Lakers won their eighth-straight WCC meet this year to win the WCC title going away. Minnewaska won by four strokes over BOLD during the final WCC meet of the season last Tuesday at Morris.
Minnewaska, which had 56 points this year, shot a 170 total at Morris, while BOLD finished four strokes back with a 174 total and ended the season in second place in the final standings with 46 points and Melrose was third with 42.
Annika DeBoer led the Lakers in the final WCC meet with a score of 38 to place second behind meet medalist Kenna Henriksen, of BOLD, who shot an even par round of 36.
Ava Kollman was right behind with a 39 to place third overall, while Arivia DeBoer tied for fifth with a 46, and Lexi Barsness had a 47 to earn ninth.
Brainerd Invite
The Lakers golfed at the Brainerd Invitational last Wednesday, shooting a 382 score, which was good enough for seventh place out of 13 teams.
Elk River won the meet with 338 points, followed by Brainerd in second (340) and Detroit Lakes (349).
Annika DeBoer paced the Lakers with a score of 85 to earn sixth overall, while Arivia DeBoer shot a 94 to place 22nd, Lexi Barsness carded a 97 for 28th and Lillie Ogdahl shot a 106 to earn 52nd.
Brainerd’s Izzy Olson shot a 78 to earn medalist honors by one stroke over Elk River’s Avery O’Donnell.
