Girls track team second at sub-sections

The Minnewaska Area track and field teams competed at the sub-section meet at Maple Lake last Tuesday. The girls placed second of 10 teams, while the Laker boys were fifth of 11 teams.
Eden Valley-Watkins-Kimball dominated the girls meet with 195 points, while the Lakers placed second with 106. Sauk Centre meanwhile, edged Howard Lake-WW for the boys’ title by 13 points (164-151).
The top athletes advance to the Section 5A Track and Field Meet, set for Wednesday, May 31 at St. John’s University, while the State Track Meet is set for June 9-10.
Winning titles for the Lakers at the sub-section meet were Jayda Kolstoe in the discus (103-10), McKenzie Luetmer in the triple jump (34-6 1/4), the 3200 meter relay team of Brooke Kolstoe, Olivia Danielson, Lauryn Ankeny and Luetmer (9:59.86), Maeson Tank in the 400 (51.21) and the boys’ 3200 meter relay team of James Ward, Jayce Kovarik, Nick Ankeny and Tank (8:38.91).
Overall, Luetmer had two firsts and two seconds for the Laker girls, while Tank had two titles and one second.
Sub-section meet
The Minnewaska Area girls track team placed second behind EVW-Kimball at the sub-section track meet at Maple Lake last Tuesday. EVW had 195 points to dominate the meet, winning nine titles, while the Lakers were second with 106 points and Holdingford was third with 101.
In the boys’ competition, Sauk Centre held off Howard Lake-WW to win the title by 13 points (164-151), while EVW-Kimball was third with 82.5 points and the Lakers were fifth with 73.5.
The top eight place finishers earned points for their team with scoring going 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.
Winning titles for the Laker girls were McKenzie Luetmer in the triple jump (34-6 1/4), Jayda Kolstoe in the discus (103-10) and the 3200 meter relay team of Brooke Kolstoe, Olivia Danielson, Lauryn Ankeny and Luetmer.
Luetmer was also second in the 400 meter dash (59.23), while Jayda Kolstoe was also second in the shot put (35-9) and the 1600 meter relay team of Ankeny, Teagan Stark, Danielson and Luetmer had another second with a time of 4:10.61.
Placing third for the Lakers were Ankeny in the 300 meter hurdles (47.88), Mya Lindemann in the 100 (13.51), Elsey Hagen in the 3200 meter run (12:40.99) and the 800 meter relay team of Stark, Esryn Dahl, Dacia Fleury and Lindemann (1:50.33), while earning fourths were Fleury in the 100 (13.63) and Kiearra Wilmes in the 3200 (12:52.11), and placing sixth were Stark in the 400 (1:04.05), Phemie Oeltjen in the high jump (4-8) and Lexi Bosek in the pole vault (7-8).
• In the boys competition, Minnewaska had two firsts by Maeson Tank in the 400 (51.21) and by the 3200 meter relay team of James Ward, Jayce Kovarik, Nick Ankeny and Tank (8:38.91).
Adding a second-place finish was Tank in the 800 (2:03.72), while Kovarik placed fourth in the pole vault (10-5), Zach Palmer was fourth in the 3200 (10:59.12) and Owen Meulebroeck was fourth in the 300 hurdles (44.09).
Minnewaska Area also had five fifths and two sixths as Ankeny was fifth in the 1600 (5:06.27), Ward was tied for fifth in the high jump (5-8), the 400 meter relay team of Kaiden Harvey, Asante Adams, Conner Stein and Carter Meyer was fifth (46.17), the 800 meter relay team of Meyer, Harvey, Adams and Meulebroeck was fifth (1:36.57), and the 1600 meter team of Blake Andreas, Hunter Kloos, Ward and Ankeny was also fifth in 3:45.58. In addition, Meulebroeck was sixth in the 110 hurdles (17.28) and Andreas was sixth in the triple jump (39-3 1/2).
