The Minnewaska Area boys tennis team went 3-1 last week to raise its season record to 8-3.  The Lakers beat East Grand Forks (5-2), SCC/SJP (7-0) and Fergus Falls (5-2) during the week, while also losing to NLS during a home triangular, 5-2, which was for the WCC team title.

On Saturday, the Lakers competed in the WCC Individual Tourney where Noah Palmer earned the lone title for Minnewaska Area at third singles.

This week, the Lakers were set to compete at Osakis, Tuesday (tomorrow) and at a triangular at Alexandria, Thursday, May 11.

Waska triangular #1

The Lakers split a triangular at home last Tuesday, beating East Grand Forks in one match, 5-2, but losing to NLS in the other, 5-2.

Tenzin Dahl (6-2, 6-3), Noah Palmer (6-4, 6-3) and Tayte Wasilowski (2-6, 6-2, 10-7 tiebreaker) earned wins against EGF at second through fourth singles, while Carter LeClair and Drew Bleick also won 6-4, 6-4 at first doubles and Marshall Kopp and Landon Schiffler earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory at third doubles.

•  During the second match of the day, the Wildcats edged the Lakers for the WCC title, 5-2.

Noah Palmer earned on win for Minnewaska with a 6-4, 6-0 win at third singles, while Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair prevailed 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 at first doubles for the Lakers’ second point

Minnewaska also lost a three-set match at second singles, while Marshall Kopp and Landon Schiffler lost their first match of the season with a 7-6, 7-6 loss at third doubles.

Waska triangular #2

The Lakers played in their second triangular of the week, this time beating St. Cloud Cathedral/SJP (7-0) and Fergus Falls (5-2).

The Lakers allowed just 17 total game during the sweep over SCC/SJP.  Leading the way was the singles’ lineup of Connor Quelle (6-2, 6-2 win), Tenzin Dahl (6-0, 6-0), Noah Palmer (6-1, 6-0) and Riley Thorfinnson (6-3, 6-0).

In doubles, things went just as well as Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at first doubles, Marshall Kopp and Landon Schiffler won 6-2, 6-3 at second doubles, and Tyler Kohn and Easton Palmer had little problem in winning 6-0, 6-1 at third doubles.

•  The Lakers improved to 8-3 for the season with the 5-2 win over Fergus Falls in the second match of the triangular.

Connor Quelle (6-2, 6-2), Tenzin Dahl (6-2, 6-1) and Noah Palmer (6-1, 6-0) gave Minnewaska three of its points as they raised their combined records to 26-7 this season.

In doubles, Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair improved to 10-1 for the year with a 6-4, 6-3 win at first doubles, while Marshall Kopp and Landon Schiffler improved to 8-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at third doubles.

WCC Individuals

The Lakers competed at the WCC Tourney at Montevideo, Saturday, and all of the Laker entries placed second or better.

Noah Palmer earned first place at third singles to lead the Lakers, while Connor Quelle (first singles), Tenzin Dahl (second singles) and Riley Thorfinnson (fourth singles) all placed second.

In doubles, the teams of Drew Bleick-Carter LeClair (first doubles), Marshall Kopp-Landon Schiffler (second doubles) and Tyler Kohn-Xavier Johnson (third doubles) also all earned runner-up finishes.

NLS, which won the regular-season title, had four individual champions.
