The Starbuck Stars fell to 1-2 overall with a 6-0 loss at Paynesville, Sunday afternoon.  The Stars were also set to host Clinton, Friday night, but that game was postponed to a later date due to lack of players from the Clinton team.

Next up for the Lakers is a game at New London-Spicer, Sunday, May 28 followed by the Stearns County Classic, June 3-4.  The next home game isn’t scheduled until Saturday, June 10 when the Stars are set to host Paynesville.

Pirates 6, Starbuck 0

Paynesville scored four runs in the first inning on the way to a 6-0 victory over Starbuck, Sunday afternoon at Paynesville.

Austin Versteeg, the starting pitcher for the Stars, didn’t make it out of the first inning as Paynesville had two hits and three walks in its first six at-bats to end the game early for Versteeg, who was credited with giving up four runs.

Aaron Versteeg pitched the next 4 2/3 innings, giving up just three hits and one run, while Darion Alexander pitched the final three innings, giving up one unearned run.

Tanner Stanley was the main weapon for the Pirates, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

For Starbuck, Jackson Hendrickson, Alexander, Austin Versteeg and Torii Johnson had one hit each, while Alexander and Drew Olsonaski also reached base on walks.
