Eight members of the Starbuck Chamber of Commerce board met in May for their monthly meeting. One director was missing, and we had 3 guests present. Somehow the past 3 weeks got away from yours truly, so this recap is a bit tardy!
Old business included a summary of where we’re at with Heritage Days planning, and happily, everything is in place and looking great. Registration forms are available on the Chamber’s website, and many have been mailed to participants as well. Donation requests are bringing in needed financial help. We have 8 new tables for the pancake breakfast Sat. July 1st as many were “done serving their time” for this and other events held by the chamber.
We discussed the huge success of the Klub Luncheon fund-raising event for the Depot Society’s planned 40th Anniversary of the World’s Largest Lefsa, also to be held on July 1st during Heritage Days. The Klub luncheon sold out long before the event planned to close; what a show of support for the Depot and loyalty to a Scandinavian specialty!
Our previously scheduled off-site retreat was canceled due to member’s busyness, but West Central Initiative was rescheduled to attend our monthly meeting on July 18th where we’ll discuss the issues we hoped to tackle. We also planned for this evening to include a potluck supper, so we think that will ensure everyone’s attendance-ha!
Other old business included an update about the Chamber website cleanup, and a small group planned to meet with Amy Camp, our fearless volunteer leader on this project to help with specifics on each page. If you check our website, please note that it is a work in progress, and we’ll make a larger announcement when we feel it’s ready to be noticed! Everyone involved has full-time jobs and/or other responsibilities, so the work is happening on their off time. Thanks for your patience if you’ve had trouble navigating it.
Two new businesses in Starbuck were honored with a first dollar certificate and we have a list of FIVE more for our next time! We love the growth in Starbuck and are thrilled to honor them with some coverage by the Tribune and especially a greeting from our board.
Our BikeShare project is finalized in terms of where we will mount the bike racks (the North side of the Depot Museum’s Skoglund Building). We’re still waiting on the replacement seats that were damaged in shipping.
We are working on a new sound system for our outdoor activities and hope to have it in place by the Heritage Day parade on July 2nd.
Funding for the mural being painted for the east side of Samuelson’s Drug is completed and we’re waiting on the artist to finish. She is painting panels in her studio, which will deliver and mount on the building once completed.
New business included the agreement to gift the Valdres Samband Norwegian conference attendees, being held at Fron Church June 22-24, with posters designed and illustrated for our brochure.
The chamber directors volunteered to provide and serve the Thurs. Night on the Town meal on Aug. 17th. Menu to be determined once we know the other week’s plans!
We discussed the need to clean our offices, but no date was selected. (Not surprising, right?) And we discussed doing an inventory of our Starbuck tee shirts which are selling quickly and we’re out of stock in many sizes. We absolutely love the success of these shirts, are grateful for those of you who purchased and wear one and are thrilled that many visitors want to remember Starbuck!
