The Minnesota Wheels of Honor, a group of motorcyclists that believe the military, law enforcement, first responders and their families need more support and recognition, rode into Glenwood last weekend to present a plaque to the wife, Shannon and son of fallen Pope County Deputy Josh Owen.

“Whether it’s a soldier or peace officer injured or killed in the line of duty or a firefighter and/or EMS worker or dispatcher that serves our communities, we are there to support them.

We are relatively new, formed in 2022. We morphed out of another organization and expanded our mission to include law enforcement and first responders,” stated Vice Chair and Road Captain Jim Woodruff.

“So far this year, we’ve visited with a retired peace officer that was diagnosed with ALS over a year ago, two brothers that have served a combined 80 years in the military, a family that has a former mayor and police chief, current peace officer, current state trooper, current Command Sgt. Major in the MN Army National Guard and a family that has currently over 120 years of service in the Excelsior Fire District,” added Woodruff.

The group also visited the family of Christopher Nord, who was killed in a helicopter crash near Camp Ripley in December 2019, over the weekend.
