Tigers edge Lakers in another five-game match

The Minnewaska Area volleyball team split a pair of conference matches last week, losing in five games to Morris Area-CA last Tuesday night and also sweeping Benson, Thursday. The Lakers are 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference after the latest results.
The WCC is very tight right now with BOLD and Sauk Centre both 7-1, WCA and Melrose are both 5-3, Minnewaska Area is 4-4, Morris Area is 3-5, Montevideo is 1-7 and Benson is 0-8. Through 12 matches this season, the Lakers have won 22 games and lost 16.
Coming up this week is another two-match week as the Lakers are set to play at Montevideo, Tuesday (tomorrow) before hosting BOLD, Thursday.
Morris Area 3, Waska 2
The Lakers lost a five-game match at Morris Area-CA last Tuesday night, 21-25, 28-26, 17-25, 25-22, 15-11. It was the third five-game match of the season for the Lakers, who are 1-2 in five-gamers. Minnewaska led 2-1 before the Tigers rallied for the win.
Four Lakers had double-digits in kills as Avery Fier had 16 kills, Dacia Fleury had 15, Haillie Schulz had 13 and Dreya Barsness slammed down 12 kills.
Fier also led her team with 25 digs, followed by Emma Poegel with 22, Barsness with 20 and Haley Shea with 11, while Fier and Barsness had one ace-block each and Shea (31 set assists) and Schulz (22) were the leaders in set assists.
In the serving department, the Lakers had three players with two ace-serves each — Brooklyn Noyes, Barsness and Shea.
Minnewaska 3, Benson 0
The Lakers took out their frustrations from two nights earlier on the Braves. Minnewaska allowed just 33 total points for Benson during a 25-15, 25-10, 25-8 whitewash, Thursday night at Benson.
Avery Fier, Dreya Barsness, Haley Shea and Haillie Schulz led the onslaught. Fier had four ace-serves, three set assists, 10 kills and six digs, while Barsness added a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs, Shea had four ace-serves and 16 set assists, and Schulz had a team-high 18 set assists to go along with seven kills and five digs.
The Lakers also got two ace-serves and eight digs from Emma Poegel, seven kills from Dacia Fleury, four kills from Addy Kath, seven digs from Brooklyn Meyer and one block each from Emma Hellermann and Miaya Guggisberg.
