The Minnewaska Area girls tennis team clinched its ninth-straight WCC title with a 6-1 victory at home against Sauk Centre last Tuesday night.
The Lakers improved to 8-0 in the conference and 11-6 overall with the latest win. No other WCC team had less than two losses.
Minnewaska Area was also set to compete in the WCC Individual Tourney at Alexandria, Saturday, but that meet was canceled due to rain and won’t be made up.
Also coming up is the start of the Section 6A Tourney, which is set to begin Thursday. The Lakers could possibly be seeded third in the 9-team section with Osakis and NLS being the top two seeds.
If Minnewaska Area is seeded fourth or better it would host a match at 4 p.m., Thursday. The remainder of the Section Team Tourney is set for Tuesday, Oct. 10 at Rogers.
Through the match with Sauk Centre, Addy Heid (14-5) and Rachel Rankin (14-5) currently lead the Lakers in wins, followed closely by Megan Thorfinnson (13-6), Alia Randt (13-6), Katie Sorenson (12-8), Katy Vold (12-7), Olivia Danielson (11-8) and Avarie Uhde (11-8).
